San Francisco Chronicle columnist Pati Poblete’s got a funny column this morning on Job’s Law – the technology axiom that a new iPod will be released every 3 weeks, doubling in memory and halving its size. Actually, Job’s Law is something we just came up with off the top of our heads, how brilliant.
Anyway, Poblete touches on our Job’s Law concept and relates her issues of tech obsolescence. Specifically, she relates how the iPod Mini she bought not that long ago is now going the way of the 8 track tape and how she’s coping – or not – with pressure to simultaneously upgrade and downsize to a Nano:
“But just when I had formed a true bond with my iPod, it had become obsolete….But do we really need an iPod that is ‘thinner than a standard No. 2 pencil’? Or an iPod ‘at under half-an-inch thin’ that can play up to 150 hours of all the ‘Desperate Housewives’ episodes you can ask for? Or a cell phone that could store all our iTunes?
Judging by the demand for these anorexic Apples, we do. “
