A West Virginia man is suing his former employers for firing him due to anonymous comments he made on a ‘Net message board about the company.
Clifton Swiger worked for Allegheny Energy for 16 years and was let go after the company discovered he was behind highly-critical postings on a Yahoo message board. Swiger alleges the company was in the wrong in that it filed a John Doe lawsuit against Yahoo in November 2003 to determine the identity of the poster who went by “ayeyawn.”
Yahoo coughed up Swiger’s identity, and according to The Register: “In early December 2003 Swiger was told that because the ayeyawn account was registered by his wife the company believed he had made the posts and his use of a racially-offensive term breached company guidelines so he was indefinitely suspended without pay.”
