If you’ve been aware of the Chinese government’s wary view of all things Internet, the following news shouldn’t be too surprising.
The Ministry of Public Security has stated it is now illegal to send short text messages that can have “massive influence.” And who knows how they define “massive influence”? We’re thinking “any way they want.”
Given the government’s heavy restrictions on Web content allowed within its borders and the online activities of its citizens, it certainly doesn’t want unregulated texting – or anything, really – going on without its consent.
