The only surprising aspect of the news that hackers are exploiting Sony’s controversial DRM rootkit is the fact it took them this long.
So far three Trojans have been found that take advantage of the DRM cloaking technology and enter your PC undetected.
For its ridiculous part, Sony issued a statement yesterday “deeply regretting any disruption that this may have caused” and pledging to work with security firms to ensure its anti-piracy software “continues to be safe.” Yeah, um, in order to use “continue” in that context it would have had to have actually been “safe” at some point.
