Sporting experts say the national pastime of balls, bats and pucks is pushing wireless technology faster and further than anyone dreamed.

Sports media, league and technology experts gathered at the recent Sports Media & Technology convention and concluded sports is pushing the wireless revolution more than any other factor.

The advent of transmitting scores and now video clips – or even complete games – to a cell phone is the latest advent in a wave of progress designed to get info out to consumers faster via smaller and more multifunctional phones.

The Boston Globe reports on thoughts from the show, but we wonder: Isn’t the market for the real high-end wireless sports services mostly bookies, Vegas and hard-core gamblers? Will Joe Tailgate really shell out extra money every month to have video and scores sent to his phone?
