eBay pulls Excel vulnerability auction

It seems like when eBay pulls an auction, it’s usually a kidney or someone’s soul, but this time the e-comm giant has put the kibosh on the auction of a security vulnerability found in Excel.

The vulnerability claims to allow the creation of an Excel spreadsheet that when opened would allow a hacker to control the victim’s computer. Microsoft’s SWAT team is looking into it. eBay says it killed the auction because it violated the site’s ban on items that “encourage illegal activity.”

But today’s Register notes that two vendors, iDefense and TippingPoint, support the buying of such information.

Interesting read.
