Attention slot jockeys, the eye in the sky will soon be using technology to monkey with the odds on your favorite machine.

Today’s New York Times reports that casino execs will soon be able to remotely reprogram everything from payback to game themes via mouse clicks. Damn you, technology! Stay away from our Price Is Right slots!

“The development of networked slots underscores the growing convergence of gambling and technology. Slot machines, once highly mechanized, are now highly computerized; only about half the machines have actual spinning cylinders. The rest are computer-generated facsimiles that allow gamblers to play numerous animated reels at once, and induce them with the promise of bonus rounds,” says the paper.

And, of course, this paves the way for “Oceans 14”.
