So SoHo wasn’t good enough. Not content to have a store solely in the hipster neighborhood, Apple opens its 147th store today – on Fifth Avenue in NYC.
Right next to FAO Schwartz and across from Bergdorf Goodman, the newest Apple store will be open 24-7 and have 300 staffers.
The entrance is marked by a 32-foot glass cube sporting the Apple logo – inspired by I.M. Pei’s glass pyramid at the Louvre and co-designed by Steve Jobs. Perhaps Apple’s glass cube houses the Holy Grail?
Once inside the cube, customers will take a circular glass-and-steel staircase “into the inner sanctum of the subterranean but well-lit store,” writes the AP.
Pretentious, yes, but darn it all we love their gear.
