Microsoft has unveiled a series of new perks for employees just as it forced its contractors into a 7-day shutdown.
While Redmond employees will enjoy enhanced child-care benefits, access to dry cleaning and grocery delivery services, and better cafeteria food, contractors get a week-long vacation without pay. Well, sushi and California cuisine aren’t cheap.
Microsoft says the timing was coincidental. Also not surprising considering it came from…Microsoft.
“I can understand why people might think that there is a connection, but there is not,” Microsoft spokesman Lou Gellos said.
The company says it’s putting contractors on hiatus in an effort to save money in areas in which it is running over budget. The perks are a way to keep employees happy and, one would assume, keep them from jumping to Google.
