World’s most expensive cell number

An unidentified mobile phone lover found some extra cash in the couch cushions this week and paid 1.5 million pounds, or $52,394,292, for the number 666-6666. (Ed. – Think you got the exchange rate wrong there….)

Telco Qtel auctioned the number for charity, making it the most expensive cell number on Earth. The previous record was 270,000 pounds for 888,8888 for a Chinese number.

And lest you think the number was purchased by Satan, depending on your interpretation the number has relations to the word “God” in Arabic or may be considered holy in Judaism.

But we like The Register’s take: “The first Apple Computer sold for $666.66, the sixth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is w – so www. shows how evil the internet is. And finally, Viagra has a molecular weight of 666.7g/mol.”
