The Internet’s next 800-pound gorilla may be the venerable BBC. Which means said gorilla will be wearing a cravat and speaking in cool, even tones.
Reports from across the pond say the head of the communications network wants to be a portal on par with the U.S. giants, but Brits are upset that they’ll have to fund the move through the tax they already pay on television sets.
Experts say the BBC is the only European brand that could give Google and AOL a run for their collective money, although we’re sure it could take AOL… For its part the Beeb is dismissing speculation and insists it’s just like any other company looking for opportunity.
