Potter fans pull down ‘Net honor

Harry Potter fans are starting to rival Trekkies in their, um, “enthusiasm”. (Ed. – We would have gone with “insanity” but it’s your call.) And as a Trekkie we say that in all seriousness, and if a Trekkie thinks your fandom is off, then it just might be.

However, kudos – we guess – to the folks behind the fan site The Leaky Cauldron, for becoming the first fan site to win a Webby Award. Seriously, those things are still around?

The real news was the unintentionally humorous press release we got that started with: ” At a star-studded event last night that included music mogul Prince, acclaimed journalist Thomas Friedman and one of the inventors of the Internet, The Leaky Cauldron, www.leakynews.com, a top destination for Harry Potter fans worldwide, became the first fan site to ever collect the coveted Webby Award. It received the People’s Voice honor in the Celebrity/Fan category during the awards’ most heavily voted year in its 10-year history.”

The first sentence sounds like the setup for a joke: “Prince, Thomas Friedman and one of the inventors of the Internet walk into a bar
