With literally a world of information at their fingertips, experts say young people of the “Google generation” have no concept of plagiarism.
Professor Sally Brown, of Leeds Metropolitan University in the U.K., notes: “They are post-modern, eclectic, Google-generationists, Wikipediasts, who don’t necessarily recognise the concepts of authorships/ownerships,” and adds that plagiarism is rampant in U.K. universities. It’s probably safe to say plagiarism has always been around worldwide, it’s just a lot easier now thanks to the ‘Net and Ctrl C, Ctrl V.
Brown recommends teachers “personalize” assignments, in which students would have to keep a diary or journal to track their work progress, or write something based on their own experience.
Regardless, great to know Charlie Brown’s sister has such an impressive gig. Also ” plagiarism” is a very difficult word to spell, we misspelled it every time we typed it above.
