Long angry with Paramount for not doing justice to Star Trek in one incarnation or the other, Trek fans are doing what they’ve always done – do it themselves.
With no first-run Trek franchise currently airing on TV, fans are using digital video equipment, CGI and their own noggins to product, shoot and showcase their Trek projects on the Web.
The New York Times looks at the plethora of online Trek offerings, which one creator likened to “online community theater.”
The Times takes you behind the scenes of one shoot, and there’s something pretty wonderful about a bunch of Klingons running around the Virginia woods in handmade costumes with Nerf guns pained gray. And, amazingly, some original series actors and writers are signing on to join in the fun.
