An IT Department that runs under budget?

Security’s your No. 1 priority right? Yes, except if you work in the Ohio University IT Department, where getting sweet benes and free health club memberships ranked higher.

Oh, yeah. An audit of the school’ s Computer and Network Services division found that security’s been on the bottom of the to-do list “for more than 10 years, though it had an annual budget averaging $11 million and annual surpluses averaging $1.4 million,” writes The AP. While the department was lax on data security, it was leading-edge when it came to giving perks to IT staffers.

How did no one notice?

Well, they did once the school got hit five times in data theft cases in the past year. All told 367,000 files containing personal information, including Social Security numbers, names, medical records and home addresses, were exposed.
