Interesting story in USA Today notes that with the proliferation of digital cameras, mini-DV camcorders, camera phones, free photo sharing sites and YouTube, the U.S. is becoming a nation obsessed with itself.

“Americans have a new favorite pastime: creating their own reality shows, featuring themselves – and anyone else they see along the way,” writes the paper.

All we’re trying to do is meet the unending demand for grandchild photos and now we’re self-obsessed? Well, maybe a little.

“Our computers are about to become unblinking paparazzi,” says Paul Saffo of the Institute for the Future in Menlo Park, Calif. “And we’re all going to feel a little bit like Brad and Angelina.”

We’ll feel like them as soon as someone slides $4 million our way for baby pictures. Then we’ll talk.

Actually, the story is somewhat interesting when it gets to the issue of whether privacy’s eroding in the era of digital imaging.
