This may not seem like a big deal if you’ve never purchased baby gear or toys on the site, but if you have you know how much the online superstore stands to lose.
Amazon and TRU were to have an exclusive deal in which the toy store would feature products exclusively on Amazon.com. A New Jersey judge found that Amazon breached the deal (the story unfortunately doesn’t say how), which allowed the two companies to break their partnership.
Now each is going their own seperate online way, and experts say Amazon could stands to lose $50 million in TRU-related sales this year. No surprise given that many register for baby gear at brick-and-mortar Babies R Us and Toys R Us stores, then point folks to Amazon to make the purchases.
It’ll be interesting to see how each entity fares solo.
