Marines use MySpace to recruit

The U.S. armed forces is invading MySpace as a way to find potential recruits.

The Marines have set up a successful page in which youth can learn more about the Corps and even contact a recruiter.

“That’s definitely the new wave,” Gunnery Sgt. Brian Lancioni told the AP. “Everything’s technical with these kids, and the Internet is a great way to show what the Marine Corps has to offer.”

The Marines note that no one can enlist without meeting a recruiter face to face.

The Army, initially skeptical about using MySpace after all the site’s bad press, will soon follow suit.

“We go to where they are to try to inform them of the opportunities we offer,” notes Louise Eaton, media and Web chief for the U.S. Army Accession Command.
