Amazon’s next venture – movie making?

As if losing $3 billion in market cap this week wasn’t enough, Amazon.com overlords are apparently trying to kill investors and sink the company with the announcement it’s going to produce a movie.

Why doesn’t Bezos just announce plans to open a series of chain restaurants to finish the company off in one swoop?

Variety reports the online retail giant has optioned screen rights to Keith Donohue’s bestseller, “The Stolen Child.” “Amazon will move to secure a filmmaker and then a studio partner to turn the fantasy into a live-action feature,” writes the movie bible.

What is interesting is Amazon doesn’t want to finance the film but instead pimp offer its the site as a marketing tool for the movie.
