Annual hacker outing Defcon has become so popular, attendees have been – predictably – scamming their way in for years by creating fake badges.
But not this year, as organizers created a souped-up, pretty damn hard to hack badge. Or at least they hope so.
Explains The AP:
“The circular badge’s deceptively simple design features the Defcon logo of a skull and crossbones and a smiling face. Two light-emitting diodes designate the eyes, and a tiny microprocessor inside causes them to blink in four different ways.”
And if that sounds hackable, read the story to see there’s more to it than that. Yet someone will probably hack it, as Defconers in the past have created counterfeits using gum wrappers and have even been able to duplicate badges that had liquid pulsing through them.
