A new survey by Salary.com and America Online says U.S. “workers” on average waste 1.86 hours per 8-hour workday doing anything but work.
That sounds low, we’re gonna have to do some more screwing off.
The number actually is lower than last year’s findings of 2.09 wasted work hours a day.
We love the possible explanation for the drop from Bill Coleman, Salary.com’s senior vice president of compensation, who told the Chicago Sun-Times “the results could reflect a slightly more energized work force due to an improving economy. Or maybe fewer hard-core slackers were polled this year.”
Popular work-avoiding pastimes include surfing the Internet (for personal use, natch), socializing with co-workers and our favorite – spacing out.
“Staring blankly at the computer screen remains to be quite a popular choice,” the study concluded.
