Many men who enjoy MMO games play as women for a variety of reasons. First, there’s the game-play advantage: It’s easier to get people to team up with you when you’re a woman because the gamers are overwhelmingly male.
Then there’s the aesthetical: “They’d rather look at a character that looks like Lara Croft than a character that looks like Rambo.”
One female gamer says she’s figured out ways to tell if the woman onscreen is packing a Y chromosome in real life:
“The fact that they are scantily clad is a huge clue,” notes Erica Poole. “And often the bigger the breasts, the more likely it’s a guy.”
