Dell kills its MP3 player

We’re almost starting to feel bad for Dell.

Almost.

The beleaguered vendor (yes, it has earned the right to “beleaguered”) has stopped production on its MP3 player, the stupidly named DJ Ditty. We thought that sounded familiar, and lo and behold we were making fun of its debut not even a year ago.

So while the bad news is the Ditty is no more, the good news is they weren’t catching fire.

Dell even, oddly, slams itself on its Web site, notes The Register: “Dell offers only name brand MP3 players.” All of a sudden Dell is like Bob Dole: “Bob Dole offers only name brand MP3 players.”

Anyway, with the demise of the Ditty, Dell will sell players from SanDisk and Creative.
