When you upgrade your PDA, BlackBerry or Treo you always delete the address book, text messages, call log, e-mails and everything, right? Turns out that’s not enough.
A company out of Virginia bought 10 used phones on eBay recently and using “specialized yet inexpensive software found on the Internet,” unearthed a treasure trove of secrets, such as passwords, bank account numbers, trade secrets and even adultery.
The company, Trend Digital, warns that following manufacturer’s reset instructions isn’t enough to nuke all info off a mobile device.
Now Trend Digital just happens to be a mobile security vendor, and even though it’s got a horse in this race, the story’s still a fun read.
