Adult sues teen over iPod Nano

An Illinois woman is suing her daughter’s classmate for allegedly losing her daughter’s iPod Nano.

Melanie McCarthy is taking 14-year-old Stephanie Eick to small-claims court, seeking $475 for the cost of the iPod and case and $50 in iTunes.

Disgusted? Oh, just wait.

A Good Samaritan has anonymously donated a new Nano, case and a $50 iTunes gift certificate for McCarthy’s daughter, Shannon.

“Although I know neither Shannon or Stephanie’s families, the media coverage of this unfortunate turn of events over an iPod has compelled me to take action,” wrote the donor in a letter. “I am repaying the debt that I believe the Eicks owe to Shannon. … I am appalled that this issue has blown into such a big deal.”

Case closed, right? No, Melanie McCarthy wants to “proceed with the litigation.”

Ugh.
