Sex ad sparks privacy furor

Wow, Craigslist is a barrel of fun these days, eh? First, you’ve got prostitutes offering their services via the site, now there’s a Seattle man who ran a fake sex ad and is exposing S&M enthusiasts on the Web. Jason Fortuny wrote that he was a 27-year-old woman into S&M. He took all the replies and posted the respondents’ pictures, e-mail addresses and other personal info they supplied onto a public Web site. Everyone’s now debating the outing of the respondents – or victims – depending where you sit, and whether Fortuny broke any laws. “Publishing private e-mails is something that decent people don’t generally do without very good reason,” notes Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster.
