Why you never change your admin passwords

OK, whatever you do, don’t let your users see this article. You’ll never hear the end of it. A survey by Cyber-Ark Software claims that enterprises sport more admin passwords than empty coffee cups and – worse than that – never change them. The passwords, not the cups… Writes The Register: “The survey concludes that privileged passwords are more powerful but less likely to be changed, a factor which exposes enterprises to heightened risk of hacker attack. Survey respondents reported that 99% of individual passwords are updated, however for privileged passwords the picture is markedly different.” So why are all these super user accounts floating about and unchanged?
