Hitachi Global Storage Technologies on Tuesday rolled out new enterprise-class 72000RPM 2TB drives. The Ultrastar A7K2000 is intended for enterprise application and has a mean-time-between-failure of 1.2 million hours. Xyratex is working with Hitachi to incorporate the drives. The Ultrastart Serial ATA drives use Hitachi’s Rotational Vibration Safequard sensor technology, which optimizes performance in multi-drive arrays and rack-mounted systems.
