Imation unveils locking for LTO

Imation on Monday announced new technology that prevents LTO media from being read or written to. Secure Scan lets customers lock LTO media for transport and off-site storage and assess the health of their LTO libraries by diagnosing the root cause of drive or media errors. Secure Scan provides feedback on the viability of individual cartridges and lets user monitor media subsets or entire libraries. Secure Scan includes a barcode reader, USB cable, perpetual license and a carrying case, as well as a one year license for lock/unlock and phone-home support. The product is available for $4,000.
