CommVault announces FIPS certification for Simpana

CommVault on Tuesday announced that its Simpana data protection software has received FIPS 140-2 certification. FIPS 140-2 is the Federal encryption standard that allows protection of both backup and e-mail and file archive. The Cryptography Library in Simpana operates in FIPS mode to provide advanced encryption, cryptographic services for key generation, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, hash functionality and HMAC (Hash Message Authentication Code) security, as well as signature generation and verification.
