* Sepaton introduces S2100-ES2 Series
Sepaton last week upped the stakes on virtual tape libraries with the introduction of a larger capacity system that protects petabytes of data.
The S2100-ES2 Series 750 VTL scales to 1.2PB of uncompressed data and sustains a data rate of 9,600Mbps. The S2100-ES2 Series 750 is designed primarily for use in large data centers. It has twice the capacity of the Series 500, which it replaces.
As data infrastructures grow, the amount of capacity a VTL has is more important. Sepaton’s ability to pair its Scalable Replication Engine nodes to such a dense limit is significant.
The S2100-ES2 Series 750 virtual tape also features RAID 6 dual parity data protection. The S2100-ES2 uses Sepaton’s ContentAwereT architecture and allows customers to replicate data, failover systems and de-duplicate data. It also features 4GB Fibre Channel technology and supports as much as 60PB of data with compression and data deduplication enabled.
The ES2 can restore data at a rate of 34.5TB per hour, according to Sepaton’s claims. As many as 16 Scalable Replication Engine nodes per 750 Series VTL can be paired. The ES2 supports 3,072 virtual devices (previous versions were limited to 1,526 devices).
The S2100-ES2 Series 750, which scales from 7.5TB to 1.2PB starts at $102,000. A rack-ready version, which scales to 30TB and has one Scalable Replication Engine, starts at $59,000.
