Apple: iPhone announcement needs a do-over

You have to wonder now if maybe Apple’s Steve Jobs was so full of himself that he made the iPhone announcement this week without regard to, well, reality. Today we get the news that AT&T is killing off the Cingular brand name – yes that’s the same Cingular that the iPhone was to use exclusively for a couple years. Now maybe it would have been nice of AT&T to tell Steve this was happening, after all that agreement was a huge coup for Cingular. But it does seem to indicate some confusion at a high level at best. Coupled with the Cisco iPhone name licensing lawsuit the iPhone announcement now seems a little haphazard wouldn’t you say?
