Spectra Logic on Tuesday announced an appliance for small and midsized businesses called nTier Deduplication, which deduplicates data and enables remote site replication and automated migration of data to tape. NTier Deduplication is a policy-based product that can scale to as much as 60TB of capacity. The appliance supports field capacity upgrades non-disruptively. NTier Deduplication works with most backup software and is available now starting at $23,500. The company also announced a new version of its BlueScale 10.6 storage management software that is integrated into Spectra T-Series tape libraries. BlueScale 10.6 has been enhanced to support “hot-spare” drives, which allows the failover of failed tape drives. 10.6 also includes hardware life-cycle management capability and media life-cycle management capabilities, including autodiscovery and cataloging features.
