External storage market in decline, Gartner says

Gartner is reporting that the worldwide external controller-based disk storage market revenue was $3.8 billion in the second quarter of 2009, a more than 15% decline in the same period in 2008. Network-attached storage had a 3.5% growth rate. EMC was No. 1 with 23.7% market share, followed by IBM with 15.7% and HP with 10.3%. Dell trailed with 9.2% followed by Hitachi with 8.7%. Bring up the tail-end were NetApp and Sun with 8.5% and 4.5%, respectively.
