Gartner on Friday announced the results of an interactive poll that showed limited use of data center tools for measuring, monitoring and modeling energy consumption. The Gartner webinar conducted in April 2009 among more than 130 attendees from the infrastructure and operations management found that 68% consider energy management important, but only 7% consider green procurement a top priority. Gartner recommends raising the temperature at server inlets to 75 degrees Fahrenheit and monitoring for hotspots. Consolidation through virtualization, SPECPower benchmarking and creation of an energy monitoring dash board are additional recommendations.
