IBM on Tuesday announced new software for managing data centers. VMControl for enterprises, combined with IBM Tivoli software, gives a single point of control across multiple types of IT systems and virtualization technologies, supporting Unix/Linux, mainframe, x86 servers and storage systems and networks. According to IBM, VMControl provides faster response to business needs in the virtualized environment, efficient use of resources and better predictability of operations. VMControl Enterprise Edition is expected to be available on IBM Power Systems running AIX in December 2009. Additional support for other platforms is planned for next year.
