Prior to e-mail, it used to be that the only time you got inundated with boring, boastful or disturbing updates from family or friends was via the mass-mailed Christmas letter.

Now, thanks to instant, always-on e-mail, your family and friends can annoy you with their musings or boring/personal/uncomfortable news whenever they feel like it.

USA Today tags the phenomenon Too Much Information Nation and looks at why people feel the need to share “fram” – aka, spam from family and friends – and what can be done about it.
