RFID has found a new, yet unfortunate, use in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Coroners in two Mississippi counties have been implanting RFID chips under the skin of corpses, or in body bags, to track unidentified and unclaimed victims. Applied Digital Solutions donated the half-inch VeriChips (above), which are speeding the morgue work and reducing errors.
“It’s better enabled me to do my job as the coroner – tracking and getting people’s loved ones back to them quickly,” noted Gary T. Hargrove, Harrison County coroner.
