You gotta hand it to spammers for at least one thing: They’re industrious.

Always trying to get into your servers and bypass your anti-spam software, spammers are now launching some new tricks, according to Clearswift’s Monthly Spam Index.

  • More spammers are using legit Web sites as “jump off points.” Instead of sending their bogus link via e-mail into your system, they get them listed on sites such as Yahoo and Geocities. The unsuspecting then click the links on the legit sites, which lead them down the path to peril.
  • Spammers also are using more sophisticated sentence randomization – moving away from the random passages taken from novels or dictionary definitions, or more obvious ploys such as word obfuscation (seen in messages that advertise V1agra, Levitr@ or C!ialis).
  • Think that no one in Nigeria loves you anymore? It’s not just you. Clearswift notes the infamous 419 scams are down to .1% of all spam.
