Tivo hits iPods, PSPs

Tivo is expanding its TivoToGo service by allowing recorded shows to be transferred to iPods and PlayStation Portables.

And while the idea is a good one, it won’t be easy or fast. Tivo subscribers will need to buy additional encoding software for their PCs, and transfer time from Tivo to PC will be in real time, so an hour-long show will take an hour to get onto your PC. Plus, add another 10 minutes or so to sync with your portable device of choice.

Tivo also announced today “it will also add more copy-protection measures to discourage possible copyright abuse that would anger Hollywood,” writes the AP. Let’s hope they’re not consulting Sony on any of that.
