In today’s “what the *%#&% were they thinking category,” I give you The Silent Guardian – a device or gun really that uses wave technology to heat skin to an intolerable level, thus causing anyone within the vicinity to flee the area. Fast. Raytheon, who developed the device says it offers “less-than-lethal directed energy protection” and can repel individuals or crowds without causing injury. “The system provides a zone of protection that saves lives, protects assets and minimizes collateral damage, ” the company says. Yeah and gives ‘em a good sunburn I suspect because the device works by heating skin to about 122 degrees Fahrenheit. The U.S Army, which demonstrated the device, says the gun doesn’t leave burns or cause any long term issues. Hmm…what about the guy who insists the dial on his Silent Guardian “Goes to 11.” Outside of a warzone, this thing sounds like a disaster waiting happen.
