Information management vendors Attune Systems and Abrevity last week announced enhancements to their file-area networking management products. Meanwhile, Larry Ellison-backed Pillar Data added de-duplication of data to its array with help from a variety of storage vendors.
Attune Systems, maker of the Maestro File Manager appliance, announced a new version targeted at midsized businesses. The FM6100 is smaller and less expensive than the company’s previous File Manager appliance, but still offers file virtualization services including replication across multivendor file servers and network-attached storage.
The Maestro File Manager FM6100 is based on off-the-shelf industry standard x86-based hardware. It supports Microsoft’s Common Internet File System (CIFS) and is available for $30,000 for the stand-alone appliance.
Abrevity announced a new version of its FileData Classifier and FileData Manager software. Version 3.0 allows the centralized management of file data on the enterprise network and also the local management of distributed data.
FileData Classifier allows the discovery of information contained in CIFS or Network File System (NFS) repositories. It provides a query and policy creation function, which lets IT discover data that can be migrated, moved, archived or tiered.
FileData Manager allows the enforcement of data management policies.
Finally, Pillar Data Systems teamed with FalconStor Software, Data Domain, Diligent and Symantec to add data de-duplication capabilities to their storage array. The Pillar Axiom is now integrated with FalconStor’s VirtualTape Library (VTL) technology and works with Data Domains Gateway Series, Diligent’s ProtecTIER software and Symantec’s Veritas NetBackup Pure Disk de-duplication technology.
