‘Tis the season for tiny, green-bereted girls to come hawking cookies. Or, more frighteningly, their parents – your coworkers or worse, your boss – putting the not-so-subtle screws to you that you should pony up for some Samoas, toot sweet.

C.W. Nevius at the San Francisco Chronicle looks at the issue in his column, “Girl Scout cookies and office politics,” and comes to the conclusion work places should institute strict “No solicitation” policies so everyone can avoid an ulcer.

“There is pressure, tremendous pressure, on people,” says Ethan Winning, founder of Winning Associates, a consulting firm that specializes in writing employee handbooks. “It isn’t just Girl Scout cookies, it is any kind of giving campaign. It can become almost like tithing a salary.”

Just say no – to Do-si-dos?
