The Recording Industry Association of America is leaving no stone unturned, no scofflaw scott-free in its quest to ankle the file-sharing movement.
To wit, the RIAA has named 83-year-old Gertrude Walton of West Virginia the sole defendant in its latest federal lawsuit. But they couldn’t be more wrong, says her daughter, Robin Chianumba, who lived with Walton, noting her mother “hated computers” and didn’t want one in her house. And there’s the fact that Walton’s been dead for over a month.
Walton, who the RIAA said was known as “smittenedkitten”, offered up more than 700 copyright-protected songs to the masses. The organization now admits Walton may not be smittenedkitten after all, and will dismiss the case.
