Here at Layer 8, our crack investigative news team is working for you. But we’re not uncovering the hum-drum drug ring, gun smugglers or political fat cats. No, we’re trying to find out what the devil is going on with “Bill Gates’ Top Searches” on MSN.
On Friday, crack Fusion news editor Linda noticed that the Popular Searches box at the bottom right-hand corner of the new MSN home page featured Bill Gates’ Top Searches (hit the link for a screen cap):
- News: vaccines
- Images: Legos
- Pets for sale
- Bridge
- Technology
This immediately got us all wondering, “Are these really Bill’s searches?” And, if so, why the hell is he searching “Technology” (not to mention the rest of it)?
As tip-top Fusion news editor Jeff said: “I can just imagine Bill sitting down in front of his Mac and saying, ‘OK, computer – tell me all about… technology!’ “
Desperate to get down to the bottom of this, we called Microsoft’s PR agency, which has yet to get back to us with an answer on whether these searches really belong to Gates, how often they’re updated, and so forth.
This morning, we headed over to MSN to see what Bill was searching for today and – dun-dun-DUN – they’re gone! “Bill Gates’ Top Searches” have been replaced with “Instant Answers”.
Now we’re really dying to hear back from Waggener Edstrom.
