It’ll be like the good old days at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue as ICANN has voted to create the .xxx domain.
The overseeing body hopes that shuttling off all adult content to .xxx will help keep it away from children and those who prefer to avoid such content.
Problem solved, right? Not so fast. Child protection organizations say the domain legitimizes the content and they doubt that adult site purveyors will give up their beloved .com domains.
Adult industry Web masters are similarly displeased. “[It’s] the first step toward driving the adult Internet into a ghetto very much like zoning laws have driven adult stores into the outskirts,” said Mark Kernes, senior editor at the trade monthly Adult Video News.
So it looks like ICANN has pleased exactly no one.
