Earlier this year, Google freaked out libraries, universities and pretty much the entire print world with its grand plan to scan every book into its ginormous search engine without any of the said parties’ consent.
Everyone can rest easy for now as the search engine giant has run into the tiny circle c: copyright. Google wanted to allow users to freely search every book in the universe, but without sharing any green with rights holders. The European Union told Google to pound sand earlier this year, and last week Google said it will suspend any scanning of copyrighted books in the U.S. while it tries to work out a compromise with libraries and rights holders.
