It’s safe to say China is just not a big fan of the Internet.
First, there are the country’s strict controls on Web site access, freedom of speech, Internet cafes and message boards. Now, China is making moves to block VoIP.
According to the AP: “China Telecom wants to prevent users in China from logging on to Skype’s server, the newspaper Beijing Business Today reported on its Web site. It is also trying to monitor and control online data volume, so if someone is making a phone call over a China Telecom broadband connection it will be disconnected, the report said.”
China expects to have this technology in place by 2006 or 2007.
