Sailors block emergency channel with movie

The sailors of the British fishing vessel Oceania settled in at sea after a long day to gather round the telly and watch “Crash,” the 1996 movie described thusly by the IMDB: “After getting into a serious car accident, a TV director discovers an underground sub-culture of scared car crash fetish victims and tries to use that to rejuvenate his sex life with his wife.”

Problem is, the crew “inadvertently jammed a clock radio into the switch that opened the emergency channel,” thereby broadcasting the saucy flick over the Coast Guard’s emergency channel and blocking any distress or mayday calls.

The Coast Guard dispatched a boat to find the Oceania and alert it of the situation, and even contacted national TV network Channel Four, which was showing the movie. If the Coast Guard couldn’t get to the Oceania quickly, it was going to have Channel 4 run a message for the Oceania at the bottom of the movie alerting them to the problem. Luckily, the guard reached the Oceania in time.
