Anti-spyware group dallies

Are we sure the The Anti-Spyware Coalition isn’t a federal agency? Because it’s sure moving as quickly as one.

Yesterday the group released guidelines to help users assess anti-spyware products and also updated a separate document that attempted to craft uniform definitions for what exactly “spyware” and “adware” are. The comment period ends Nov. 27 after which we hope there will be time for comments on the comments.

According to the AP: “The guidelines could encourage industry best practices that developers of adware and other programs could follow to avoid getting flagged by anti-spyware vendors.”

Of course, however, “the coalition has yet to set a timetable for defining such practices.” Take your time, guys, it’s not like spyware and adware are a problem or anything.
